Rainwater gushed down through the storm drains. I was sitting in a puddle of water, against the concrete wall of some unidentifiable building. Sodium-orange light reflected off of a thin layer of oil as it slipped down into the sewers below my feet. My shoes were soaked through and my hair was dripping wet. I held my hand out in front of me, assessing my body’s relative level of discomfort. I realized that I couldn’t remember where I was; as if I had been prefabricated with a lifetime of memories, and had only just been tossed carelessly into the world by some mischievous deity that had long since been forgotten.
